Everton could sell ‘star’ player to avoid another disastrous season

Everton are reportedly willing to listen to sizeable offers for Belgian midfielder Amadou Onana, who is being tracked by Chelsea and Newcastle.

Sean Dyche has been told that any squad rebuild will be on a tight budget possibly funded by player sales.

That’s according to a report by Mark Douglas at inews.

Whilst Everton survived on the final day of the season, it’s thought that a significant squad overhaul is needed to avoid another relegation race.

21-year-old Onana is reportedly available for £60 million, a £27 million profit on the reported £33 million move that brought him to Merseyside last summer.

That profit is thought to spearhead a summer spend for Dyche who plans to rebuild the team with an emphasis on pace, power and energy.

Dyche’s side sealed their safety with a 1-0 win against Bournemouth but again played without a recognised striker.

With Dominic Calvert Lewin missing the majority of the season, Coventry’s Viktor Gyokeres and Roma’s Tammy Abraham have recently been linked with the rebuild.

Pickford likely to stay despite links away

Another star linked with an exit, Jordan Pickford, is thought to be staying having signed a new deal back in February without a relegation clause.

The 29-year-old England international has been instrumental in Everton’s survival and doesn’t want to leave the club just yet.

Pickford has help avoid a headache for England manager Gareth Southgate by not being relegated to the Championship.

The Everton stopper is one of three keepers in Southgate’s squad to face Malta and North Macedonia along with Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale and Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone.
